The Shakespeare Sigma fly combo is a fantastic, well priced fly rod / reel combo.
I was wanted a rod for my son to use when learning how to fly fish.
After seeing this rod on the Serious Fishing Website I thought this would be perfect.
It pretty much comes ready to use (minus some leader and a fly).
The Quality of the Sigma fly rod is perfect. The rod has been matched with a great reel and weight forward floating line.
The Shakespeare Sigma Fly Combo rod comes in 3 weights: a 7ft 3 weight, 8ft 4 weight and a 9ft 5 weight.
The rod comes in a great durable Cordura case which has enough space for the reel to be kept on the rod butt. The case is really durable and will protect the rod and reel very well.
The reel for the Sigma Fly Combo is a Sigma Graphite reel which is pre loaded with backing, weight forward flyline and braided loop.
First cast with the Shakespeare Sigma Fly Combo.
With a short day session planned at South Elmham lakes it was the perfect opportunity to try this rod out.
With the weather perfect for mid February (actually was fishing in a T-shirt).
Setting up the Sigma Fly Combo with the reel it comes with (weight forward floating line), a tapered 5x leader and using a gold headed Montana on the point.
It was time to see how this rod handled.
The rod casts really well, the line slips perfectly through the eyes. The arbor on the reel small it’s still a good entry level reel
This is a great first rod or back up rod and we’ll worth the money.
The Shakespeare Fly Combo retails at £96.99 and currently at £87.99 from serious fishing.
