Six Moon Design Flex PR, Could this be the best Packrafting bag? I actually think it is. For the last few years I’ve been thinking about the design of a bag suited for packaging. I’ve put designs on paper, made my own prototypes and contacted producers to see about getting them made.
Generally, for a day hike and paddle I use the Alpkit Ledge which I think is perfect for a day trip but for a bigger trip something is needed that is more fit for purpose.
I then came across this bag by Six Moon Designs and they have basically put all of the idea that I had into design and produced the Flex PR.
Now, the Flex PR is not the most cheapest bag to purchase but you really do get what you pay for with this bag.
Packrafting demands gear that can seamlessly blend durability, functionality, and adaptability.
Among the myriad options available, the Six Moon Designs Flex PR emerges as a standout choice, showcasing an impressive fusion of design ingenuity and practicality.
As a packrafting enthusiast, I recently had the opportunity to put the Flex PR to the test, and its performance left an indelible mark on my adventures.
Design and Build of the Six Moons Flex PR.
The Flex PR exudes a robust yet minimalist design, emphasizing both form and function.
Constructed from 210D Robic nylon, the pack boasts exceptional durability without compromising on weight. The strategic placement of reinforcements in high-stress areas ensures longevity, making it an ideal companion for the rugged terrains often encountered during packrafting expeditions.
One of the standout features of the Flex PR is its modular design. The pack seamlessly adapts to varying load sizes, as it is basically a harness to carry drybags.
Whether you’re embarking on a weekend getaway or an extended backcountry expedition, the Flex PR’s ability to expand or compress makes it a versatile choice for all packrafting adventures.
Comfort and Fit of the Six Moons Flex PR:
Six Moon Designs has invested significant thought into the ergonomics of the Flex PR, ensuring a comfortable and customizable fit for users.
The padded hip belt and shoulder straps provide ample support without adding unnecessary bulk, there are 2 harness options: Flight Shoulder Harness or the Flight S-Curve Harness and these come in various sizes to make the fit perfect for your size.
The adjustable sternum strap and load lifters contribute to weight distribution, allowing for a tailored fit that minimises fatigue during extended treks.
Ventilation channels on the back panel enhance airflow, crucial for those warm and strenuous uphill climbs common in packrafting. The pack’s overall design promotes a balanced weight distribution, preventing the discomfort often associated with unevenly packed loads. This attention to detail highlights the manufacturer’s commitment to the comfort and well-being of the adventurer.
Packraft Integration.
What truly sets the Flex PR apart in the packrafting realm is its dedicated compartment for storing dry bags. A 50L dry bag is included in the purchase price but you can purchase the larger 75L bag.
Whether you carrying a 50L or 75L dry bag the Flex PR will hold them securely, it is fully adjustable to securing what ever size load you have.
The great thing about this setup is your gear is kept dry in the dry bag so the dry bag can either be taken out of the harness, stored within your packrats TiZip or the harness can go in the dry bag and attached to the front of your packraft.
Storing your packraft on the Six Moons Flex PR.
You can store your packraft at the bottom of the bag for a good weight distribution or if your putting your bag on the floor a lot and you want to limit the possibility of punctures from scrape, the packraft can be stored on the top of your bag,
Organisation and Accessibility:
Efficiency in the backcountry hinges on the ease of access to essential gear. The Flex PR excels in this aspect with its well-thought-out organization system. Multiple external pockets, including stretch mesh side pockets and a spacious front pocket for you paddle, facilitate quick access to water bottles, snacks, or other on-the-go essentials.
The inclusion of a hydration reservoir sleeve and dual ports for hose routing further enhances the pack’s functionality. This design element reflects Six Moon Designs’ commitment to creating a pack that caters to the needs of packrafters who prioritize seamless hydration management during their waterborne adventures.
