I’ve had the Rigged and Ready Predator travel rod in my van for a few months and hadn’t really got around to using it much.
I recently went out on a guided Lure fishing trip with Treble Hooked Fishing Trips and decided to get it out and give it ago.
First Thoughts.
‘I LOVE THIS ROD!’ #rodlove This rod is now my goto rod for lure fishing. It’s a beast.
It’s not the rod that you’ll be casting light lures with so don’t think you’ll be fishing light lures for Perch with it.
The rod comes with two interchangeable tips. Giving you the ability to cast between 10g – 80g.
The Rod Tips.
The longer tip, gives the rod a length of 2.2m and a casting weight of 10g – 30g. Whilst the shorter tip gives the rod a length of 1.80m with a casting weight of 20g – 80g (although I regularly use heavy lures up to 120g like the Strike Pro Guppie).
The Rigged and Ready Predator itself is made from Hi Module Carbon.
It also has a unique micro trigger handle allowing the rod to be used with either a fixed spool reel or a bait caster.
The rod comes in a very hard wearing carry case measuring only 65cm and weighing 506g its a really lightweight travel option.
The rod itself is really lightweight weighing either 146g or 144g.
How does the Rigged and Ready Predator Fish?
For myself, fishing from a packraft I need something with a fairly short handle, like the Smuggler 5. A long handles get in the way when your fishing from a packraft or kayak.
The Rigged and Ready Predators handle is short and suits this method of fishing really well. You will easily land some of the biggest fish you’re likely to catch.
The Rigged and Ready Predator is a great rod for many types of fishing, from bait fishing to lure fishing. I’ve even used this rod off the beach feathering for Mackerel and spinning for Bass.
With this rod setup with a baitcaster loaded with 50lb braid, 100lb fluorocarbon leader and a large lure. You’ll easily be able to land some monster pike.
I can’t really say much more about this rod apart from get one. It is a really work horse whether you’re stalking along a river or fishing of a boat. I’d be comfortable using this rod of a boat in the winter fishing for Cod.
As mentioned previously the rod is designed with a micro-trigger which allows the rod to sit in your hand perfectly when using a baitcaster.
I’ve used this rod with the recommended RR6000 and a baitcaster and personally the rod feels more true when using a baitcaster.
Whatever your fishing is Rigged and Ready have a rod for you.
If you want an all round rod that covers everything including fly fishing then the X5 adventure is worth looking at. Or a heavier rod that can handle a bit more weight like the Smuggler Max.
