This recipe for Easy Eggs perfect hiking meal came to me after being sent a freeze dried meal of scrambled egg and cheese. I thought “would I be able to make these myself?”
I am not so keen on porridge and cereals for breakfast, I much prefer eggs or something more savoury.
After trying the Summit To Eat Scrambled Eggs and Cheese I wondered if I could make something similar with products I had at home or could purchase but would actually taste nice and not resemble loft insulation!
So I purchased 1kg of whole dried egg from amazon and my plan was to use my vacuum packer to make some pouches I could use whilst camping, hiking or fishing.
The difference in the pouch from Summit To Eat is that the product is freeze dried where the powder I had brought was just whole egg powder.
I needed to have a play around to get recipe & method correct.
Initially I tried by pouring boiling water into the egg powder and mixing it. This method didn’t work and I thought i’d wasted my money.
So I put this mix in microwave for 30 seconds to see what it would do and it fluffed up and after mixing resembled scrambled egg and the bonus was it tasted really good.
So would I be able to heat this recipe of easy eggs up in a bag whilst outdoors?
I had some foil bags that you fill from the bottom, seal and then you can rip of the top section so I thought i’d use these for my Easy Eggs perfect hiking meal.
Easy Eggs Recipe.
25g x whole egg powder
5g of parmesan cheese
Salt & Pepper to taste.
So the mix was sealed into the bags and the following day I headed out to try these pouches whilst filming a video for youtube.
Method.
- Open pouch
- Add 75ml of cold water.
- Stir thoroughly
- Place the bag in your cook pot and add water so it comes up to just below the mix in the bag.
- Boil water and stir regularly until egg is cooked.
That’s it, it is as simple as that, easy eggs for outdoors.
