Fjern Aktiv down jacket review. I’ve known about Fjern for a nearly 2 years now. They first popped up on my instagram when I was in the market for a new waterproof layer.
So I followed the link from there website to Sport Pursuit where I purchased the Orkan waterproof jacket.
I was and still am really impressed with the Orkan (see review of jacket).
My view on the outdoors connects to the ethos Fjern have.
The word Fjern is Norwegian and means remote. This really shows in the design, functionality and quality of their products.
With a strong belief in the Nordic mind set – that the outdoors is there to be enjoyed by everyone whatever the weather.
This mindset really works with my belief. There are two types of people those who feel the rain and those that just get wet!
I was approached if I would like to try one of there jackets. After a couple of days a parcel arrived with the Aktiv down fleece inside.
The Aktiv down jacket is an incredibly versatile insulated layer, constructed with a lofty 700 fill power down, yet lightweight and packable.
I haven’t used it yet in really cold conditions but it seems compact enough to use as part of a layering system.
Fjern Aktiv down jacket review.
The AKTIV is designed to provide you with an extra layer of warm whatever you are doing.
It is lightweight (the down in the XL weighs 153gm) and total weight is around 465gm. This jacket can be packed into the righthand pocket to be stored in your bag and used when needed.
What I really like about the Fjern Aktiv down jacket.
The hood; this is amazing really well insulated and the drawstrings allow for the hood to be drawn really tight to your head.
One thing on the drawstrings, these are a bit fiddly to loosen. Looking at the Arktis II from Fjern they have taken this onboard (Review of the Arktis II)
All in all as a warm layer it’s a fantastic jacket and one that I really recommend.
I normally wear an off the shelf XL and this XL still had plenty of space.
When moving arms it’s not riding up or when bending down my back didn’t become exposed.
Colours.

Hello Mark,
I’m Vincent and I’m French.
I thank you for sharing your experiences. I must say that I discover your site and I love it.
I have a question for you. Your test about waterproof jacket FJERN Orkan convinced me to buy it, but could you say me what is your size. How much you measure, your height and chest measurement. Like that, I’ll have an example to choose my size.
Thank you.
Respect, Vincent.
Hi there. I’m 1.83 and I’m not sure of chest size but an xl is the correct size for me.
30-12-2021 Hi my name is Keith Robinson i have just bought the aktiv down jacket i am 1.72 tall chest 1.02 and the jacket feels very snug have i got the right size the arm length is ok is it a case of getting used to the jacket.
How tight does it feel?
**It is lightweight (the XL weighs 153gm)**
Mark, this really is misleading & detracts from the credibility of your review.
Perhaps you’ve quoted the weight of the down alone because no outdoor garment could possibly weigh so little.
Thanks for pointing that out. I’ll change that now.
That is the down weight. The Medium jacket weighs 465g
Hi, based on your review I recently bought the Arktis II (XL), great fit and very warm, but I have noticed it has been shedding a lot of very fine feathers (car seat, baselayer etc). Is this normal for a new coat?
Good morning. It depends on what you define as a lot. A new jacket and any down jacket will ahead a few feathers through its life the trick is not to pull them out.
If you’re talking handfuls then I would definitely speak to Fjern about it. Are they escaping from one place or all over?
Fjern’s customer service is very good so any concerns reach out to them.
Hi, thanks for replying. No, not handfuls, but very fine down is coming through at seams. I’ll keep an eye on it as I do like the jacket. I would add that I bought it from Sportpursuit.com so I guess if there where any issues I should deal through them.
Thanks again
Yeah if it came from sport pursuit contact them.
