Growers Cup Coffee Pouches by the Coffeebrewer are a great little product. I was sent these brew in the bag coffee pouches by Basecamp foods to try.
Now, me I think there is nothing better than taking your time to brew a real ‘Cowboy Coffee’ in a outdoors kettle something like the Kettle by Eagle Products.
Theres nothing better for a relaxing morning than taking your time to gather birch bark, twigs and prepare firewood.
Keeping your skills in check by starting a fire with traditional fire starting gear and slowly heating your water to just below the boil and then adding your coffee from your coffee pouch.
Then the trick is not allowing the coffee to boil but allowing it to create a nice thick creamily froth, before allowing the coffee to settle.
This is all good but when we are out hiking or stopping for an hour along the river sometimes there isn’t the chance to have this coffee making ceremony.
This is where these coffee pouches by the growers cup come into play.
The Grower’s Cup Coffeebrewer is a clever hybrid between a filter coffee brewer and a French Press.
Weighing next to nothing and easily disposed of with little harm to the environment.
But one of the best things about these brew in the bag pouches is that you don’t need to throw them away, you can just empty, dry and re-use.
If your re-using make sure it is cleaned out well and that the pouch is completely dry. You can if you want add sugar.
Let’s talk coffee.
All of the coffee is Fairtrade and hand-roasted in there roastery in Middelfart, Denmark.
In addition, The Brew Company work closely with coffee farmers around the world, so they know exactly where the coffee beans come from.
Currently there are 5 types of coffee available in the growers cup.

Brazilian Coffee.
I found initially the pouch was a little fiddly to open.
But my hands where cold, keeping the pouch open wide enough to pour water in wasn’t the easiest but it was manageable.
I had my Eagle Kettle that I have recently been boiling up over a small meths burner.
The great thing about the growers cup is that you could also carry a small flask of hot water as you don’t really want to be pouring boiling hot water over the coffee.
There is a measure guide on the back to help know how strong you coffee will be.
The pouch has enough coffee and room to brew 2 cups of coffee (or one strong Kuksa in my case).
The Spout.
To open the spout, its just a twist to break the plastic.
Then I thought “well im not going to have anything to put back over the spout if I want to re-use”
But the cap can be inverted and pushed back onto the spout (winner, winner, chicken dinner!)
It takes between 2 – 4 minutes to brew. Obviously if your in a really cold environment I would suggest putting your pouch in a cosy to keep warm.
I did notice that initially the coffee came out weak but then came out in full effect. So perhaps a little shake before pouring.
Growers Cup can be purchased direct from The Brew Company or behind the Iron Curtain of Brexit Basecamp Food.
Here’s a video of me taking a day hike and using one of the Growers Cup Coffee pouches.
