The Fjern Vinter mountaineering trousers are for you if you’re looking for a 3 season durable pair of trousers that can cope with arduous weather and terrain.
Fjern are a U.K. based company designing and making outdoors clothing to that Scandinavian ethos of the love of the outdoors, no matter what the weather.
The gear that Fjern produce can handle some of the toughest weather conditions thrown at you. The Arktis II Down Jacket is one of the best down jackets i’ve ever worn and the Skjold packable waterproof is one that I take with me everywhere. Theres nothing like hiking in the fells and putting a warm down jacket on once you’ve setup.
The Vinter Mountaineering Trousers are made from a combination of windproof, water-repellent & stretch soft shell fabrics.
Areas exposed to weather are made with a more durable weather resistant GeoTex Nylon/Polyester blend fabric, like the Knees, Cuffs, Seat and Thigh panels.
Finished with DWR they will give you the confidence to to #getoutside no matter what the weather.
Packed with technical features such as the articulated knees which I really liked.
Generally knees do not cater for full movement but the Vinter mountaineering trousers do.
Fjern Vinter mountaineering trousers: The Fit.
I’m not an athletic build, i’m built more to survive the cold (that’s what I say).
I have always worn loose fitting clothing but recently have been drawn to a more tight fitting outdoor trouser.
The trousers are a slim fit but they have enough room for layering and movement.
The waist of the Fjern Vinter Mountaineering trousers have been designed with a velcro waist fastenings.
This is great to adjust the waist bu also if you where to buy a size larger, the waist can be adjusted.
There is a snap waist closure with a zipped fly. This to me is the only down fail in these trousers.
Personally I always find that snaps alway up pop possibly down to my gut! I always find a button is stronger and less annoying when snaps keep up-popping.
Pockets.
Two zipped corded zipper Thigh pockets of good size and one corded zipper back pocket of a fairly good size but I struggled to get my wallet into it.
Ventilation.
Down the side of the upper legs you have zipped ventilation, when your getting too warm and need to get some air around your legs.
The zippers for the ventilation hide snuggly up the top and can be a little difficult to pull with gloves on. But why you’d need cool your legs down when wearing gloves I don’t know.
At the base.
I love the fact that nestled in a little pouch on each leg is a boot hook.
This is great as you won’t catch then on your toes when pulling them on.
(Done that a few times with other trousers!)
Adjustable popper cuffs so you can tighten up around your boot to stop unwanted bugs and things getting up your leg.

In general these are a really nice pair of trousers.
Main Points of the Fjern Vinter Mountaineering Trousers.
- Durable.
- Resistant to wind and rain with DWR finish.
- Boot Hooks.
- Ventilation zips.
- Flexible: with articulated knees and diamond gusset.
- Comfortable and flexible.
Bad Points.
To me the only bad point is the snap on the waist I would prefer to have a button here as snaps always pop un-done with me.
